Archive never rest on their laurels. Cashing in on the trip-hop boom, they were Croydon's answer to Massive Attack in the mid 90s but they've undergone multiple reinventions, pushing themselves to new frontiers musically and now on their 13th album they sound extraordinary and free from any sense of pastiche. The single 'Look At Us' is a dream rock banger with a motorik groove underpinning soaring, reverb-soaked vocals - it's a masterclass in getting the most out of the studio whilst also retaining the thrill of what it feels like to be locked in together as a live band and they have the energy of a band that have only just met and are ready to conquer the world. The band themselves are also keen on it: "Look At Us' is quite simply a banger! With ominous lyrics, which I interpret as a reflection on the truly distorted world we live in, I think it's one of our best singles to date." Elsewhere, 'Wake Up Strange' snippets of speech taken from film with 80s synth pop flair - a completely different sonic make up showing they're guided by personal artful objectives and not any tired, tattered playbook.
